Strictly Come Dancing bosses have placed Line of Duty star Gregory Piper at the top of their wish list for this year's series, according to reports.

The 23 year old returned to the hit BBC drama for it's sixth series when it hit screens last month, portraying corrupt police officer Ryan Pilkington.

Gregory first starred in the first series of the show, which stars Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston and Vicky McClure, when he was just 13 years old.

But BBC producers are reportedly now hoping he will swap the police station for the dance floor after he has become a key character in the long-running series.

A source said: "Gregory is a household name because of his turn as evil Ryan.

"The pinnacle for Strictly bookers is someone well known but also someone who is on the BBC, and Gregory ticks both of those boxes.

"He's still relatively new to the industry, despite being part of the series for a decade, so it might be that he sees a jump into reality telly a bit soon.

"But producers are certainly keen and his name has been bandied around a lot as a dream signing," they continued to tell The Sun.

Reports of bosses' interest in Gregory comes just days after Good Morning Britain weather presenters Alex Beresford and Laura Tobin were tipped for the series.

According to reports, BBC bosses are keen to snap the pair up to show off their moves, with both of their names "in the mix."

Laura and Alex have spoken out on the reports and both took to social media to have their say — and it sounds like they'd both be up for the challenge.

Laura, 39, teased her Twitter followers by writing: "Bring it on," adding that she'd be keen on seeing her co-star Alex showing off his moves.

The mum-of-one continued: "@alexberesfordtv I've seen your dancing #Strictly," cheekily adding a winking face emoji.

Alex was also quick to respond to the swirling rumours by joking about what moves he has in his back catalogue that could entertain viewers at home.

Taking to his Twitter account, 40 year old Alex, who previously starred on Dancing on Ice, wrote: "Do I need to brush up on my 2 step and shuffle?"
