STRICTLY Come Dancing bosses are keen to sign up rebel BBC weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker after he became one of the stars of lockdown.
The meteorologist was compared to a Seventies porn star when he grew his hair while barbers were shut.
Tomasz, 42, then caused a storm when he refused to lose his shaggy sheepdog haircut when restrictions lifted. But his style only boosted his status among fans.
An insider said: “Strictly producers have had him in their sights for several years but he’s now high up on their wish-list of contenders for the 2021 series.
“It seemed apt to target him this year as he’s become one of the most-watched figures during lockdown as his growing mane of hair has been a talking point.
“It’s just the latest of several controversies and gaffes which only seem to make Tomasz more popular with viewers.”
He previously irked Beeb bosses by posing virtually naked for gay magazine Attitude.
And he once flipped his middle finger at ex-BBC newsreader Simon McCoy, 59, live on air.
Tomasz also annoyed the residents of remote Scottish islands by referring to them as “noweheresville“ in a forecast. But in 2017 he was voted Britain’s most popular weatherman.
Tomasz could face ITV Good Morning Britain forecasters Laura Tobin, 39, and Alex Beresford, 40, on Strictly when it returns for a 19th series this autumn.
And his isn’t the only lockdown name to be in the frame for the show.
England’s chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty, 55, is also said to be on the producers’ wish-list, along with his deputy Jonathan Van-Tam, 57.
Last week, The Sun exclusively revealed that Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s girlfriend, Carrie Symonds, 33, was also in the running to be on the show.
Line of Duty actor Gregory Piper, 23, who played bent cop PC Ryan Pilkington in the cop thriller, has also been tipped.
