Set in the seaside town of Morecambe, The Bay zooms in on the work of a family liaison officer as the police investigate a murder. Fans have loved watching the first two seasons of the ITV crime drama starring actress Morven Christie as DS Lisa Armstrong. However, season three is going to bring about some big changes for The Bay.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Bay.
Actress Morven Christie has been the star of The Bay as DS Lisa Armstrong up until now.
She decided to call it quits and leave the drama following the second season.
Christie hasn’t given an exact reason for her departure but going by her Instagram post, it doesn’t seem like she left on bad terms.
She wrote: “Bye Lisa. You were a gift.
“Thank you Daragh Carville, thank you beloved @leehavenjones for bringing me in, and biggest love EVER to the crew who had my back and have my heart.”
With Lisa gone for good, there’s a new family liaison officer in town to fill her role.
Actress Marsha Thomason will replace Christie in The Bay, portraying DS Jenn Townsend.
Creator Daragh Carville told press, including Express.co.uk, Christie’s departure was an opportunity with Thomason’s presence almost making it a “new show”.
But with a new unfamiliar character lead on the scene, this could have the potential to alter the future of the series.
Will there be a season 4 of The Bay?
The Bay season three will premiere on Wednesday, January 12, at 9pm on ITV.
As of yet, there has been no confirmation that The Bay is going to return for a fourth season.
So for now at least, the crime drama’s future is very much up in the air.
But Carville has stated he would want to make another series if given the go-ahead.

Carville said: “We would love to come back. The show was always conceived of as a returning show, and it’s sort of built into the DNA that there’s a crime, a family and an investigation.
“And you can probably tell from the way we’re speaking but we’re all really committed to these characters.
“We love these characters and think the world of the show.
“So certainly, we’d love to come back, but it’s as ever, in the hands of the audience. So let’s see how they respond.”
The Bay season three will see Townsend get straight to work after a body is discovered.
The synopsis for episode one reads: “DS Townsend is immediately thrown into the deep end when a body is found in the bay on her first day in the job.
“She must get under the skin of a grieving and complicated family if she has any chance of solving the premature death of an aspiring young boxer.”
The Bay season 3 premieres on Wednesday, January 12, at 9pm on ITV.
