The Chase fans blast contestant for 'unforgivable' TV blunder – and on a very special day

THE Chase fans blasted a contestant for an 'unforgivable' TV blunder – and on a very special day.

Thursday's episode of the popular ITV quiz show saw contestant Ella step up to take on Mark 'The Beast' Labbett.

Ella had managed to secure a respectable £5,000 in her Cash Builder and admitted to host Bradley Walsh: "I did a lot better than I thought."

However, viewers couldn't forgive her for making a mistake on a question about classic sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

Bradley asked her: "What is Del Boy's real first name in the sitcom Only Fools and Horses?"

Ella replied quickly: "Johnny", only to be told the correct answer was Derek.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "My name is Derek but you can call me Johnny for short."

Another joked: "She confused Del Boy with The Sex Pistols and thought his name was Johnny Trottern."

A third added mockingly: "Yes Ella. Del is short for Johnny…"

The answer came at a timely moment as this week marked the 40th anniversary of the first episode of Only Fools and Horses airing.

The sitcom starred David Jason as Del Boy and Nicholas Lyndhurst as his younger brother Rodney and ran until 2003.

Meanwhile Ella struggled during her Head to Head with Mark, who caught her and sent her home empty handed.

He said: "I told her she should have taken the £1,000."

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
