The Last Kingdom season five will be arriving on Netflix in the near future and it will mark the show’s final outing. In season four, newcomer Eadith (played by Stefanie Martini) was introduced as Aethelred’s (Toby Regbo) mistress. By the end of the season, she had joined forces with Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) and his friends – but what happens to her in the final season?

What happens to Eadith in The Last Kingdom season 5?

Eadith quickly became a fan-favourite character when she joined the historical drama’s fourth season.

She started off as Aethelred’s lover, despite the fact he was already married to Aethelflaed (Millie Brady).

Eadith and her brother Eardwulf (Jamie Blackley) had plans to overthrow Aethelred, but Eardwulf took the plan too far.

In the end, he murdered the young king, and Eadith decided to abandon her brother, who had overstepped the mark.

She helped Aethelflaed escape and she teamed up with Uhtred and his loyal friends ahead of the Winchester siege.

When fans last saw Eadith, she was being taken care of by Uhtred’s friend Finan (Mark Rowley), following the siege.

Viewers are hoping she forms a romantic relationship with Finan in the final season, so they will have to wait and see what happens.

The series is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, and in the books, Eadith forms a relationship with Uhtred.

However, as Uhtred has already had his fair share of women in the series, it may be time for Finan to find love.

With this in mind, the TV adaptation may deviate from the books and fans are hoping this is the case.

At this moment in time it is hard to say what will happen to Eadith, but there is a chance she could help Uhtred on his next mission.

Uhtred was tasked with raising King Edward’s (Timothy Innes) son Aethelstan (Caspar Griffiths) as he is expected to become the King of England.

There is a chance Eadith will use her maternal instincts to provide Aethelstan (Harry Gilby in season five) with the support he needs.

As this will be the show’s final season, there is a high chance some of the main characters will die.

In the books, Eadith sadly dies from the plague, so this may play out in the final outing.

Season four saw “the sickness” start to spread across the various kingdoms, and this may continue in the fifth season.

Eadith looked after Aethelflaed’s daughter Aelfwynn (Helena Albright), who got sick, so she has already been exposed to the illness.

With this in mind, it is possible somewhere along the line she contracts the deadly disease and meets her demise.

This would be heartbreaking for Finan, who clearly seems to have feelings for her.

Eadith actress Martini has been keeping fans up to date with her involvement in season five on social media.

Filming for season five has now wrapped and she shared a photo of herself from the wrap party.

She said: “A wrap party when you’ve only seen half of people’s faces for eight months is an absolute minefield and I love it @ryan.quarmby think we nailed it @nagapie LOVE YOU TLK5 done.”

Fans called it a “bittersweet” moment as they expressed their excitement, but said they were sad to hear season five would be the last.

In another post, she shared a photo of herself with Sihtric actor Arnas Fedaravičius on his birthday – both were wearing brightly coloured outfits.

She said: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY @arnasfederman!!! We are the best people at dressing as each other. Still livid at you for looking better in my jeans than me but we move.”

The Last Kingdom is streaming on Netflix now.
