The truth about Skai Jackson and Cameron Boyce’s relationship

Stars are still mourning the 2019 death of actor Cameron Boyce, especially his former Disney Channel co-star Skai Jackson.

Boyce was just 20-years-old when he died in his sleep following a seizure on July 6, 2019. CNN reported that the young actor was being treated for an ongoing medical condition. Boyce was most recognized for his starring roles on the Disney Channel, including the hit sitcom Jesse, which is where he met Jackson. The starred in the series together from 2011 to 2015.

Following Boyce’s death, Jackson posted a tribute to him on her Instagram: “I don’t even know where to start… I am at a loss for words. I never thought in a million years I would be writing this,” she said. “Cam, you were one of a kind. My heart will be forever broken. I am so happy that I got to spend almost everyday with you on set, you gave the best hugs. I wish I would have hugged you tighter when I saw you a couple of months ago. Thank you so much for being the big brother I never had … I am so distraught and I cannot stop crying! I love you so much … fly high.”

The Dancing with the Stars competitor has continued to honor her friends memory in a variety of ways. Let’s take a closer look.

Skai Jackson says Cameron Boyce was like a brother to her

Days after Cameron Boyce’s death in 2019, Skai Jackson attended The Lion King premier and tearfully told Entertainment Tonight that her former Disney Channel co-star “was like a brother to me, so it’s very sad.” She noted that he was a happy person and pledged to continue to honor his legacy.

Jackson has posted several photos remembering Boyce on her Instagram, including a throwback video of the two of them from their Jesse days on what would have been his 21st birthday. “He was just such a loving down-to-earth person — how you saw him is how he really was,” she told Good Morning America. “I miss him, and we’ll just continue his legacy and do everything that he would want to do.”

Jackson, 18, became the youngest competitor on Dancing with the Stars in 2020, and on the Oct. 5 episode, she planned another tribute to her beloved co-star. According to Newsweek, the Bunk’d star prepared a foxtrot to the John Legend song “Ordinary People” in Boyce’s honor. It’s unclear if that dance will get her through to the next round, but what is clear is the powerful relationship she shared with her Jesse co-star.
