Where is Milly Dowlers killer Levi Bellfield now?

Levi Bellfield: Getting Away with Murder? is a documentary on Channel 5 detailing the events surrounding the deaths of his three victims. The show also explains how he was able to stay under the police’s radar for so long. Here’s everything you need to know about what Bellfield did and what happened to the killer.

Where is Milly Dowler’s killer Levi Bellfield now?

Milly Dowler, 13, was the first of Levi Bellfield’s victims who was murdered while she was on her way home from her school in Surrey.

On March 21, 2002, Milly was travelling by train to get back to her house in Hersham but got off a stop earlier at Walton-on-Thames to get something to eat.

She and her friend went their separate ways just after 4pm with the last person who saw her alive being a friend of her sister’s who was stood at a bus stop nearby.

CCTV caught an image of a red Daewoo Nexia in the area which Bellfield admitted driving seven years later.

Milly wasn’t the only person Bellfield killed as he went on to murder both 19-year-old Marsha McDonnell and 22-year-old Amelie Delagrange.

He also attempted to kill 18-year-old Kate Sheedy, running her over with his car and causing numerous serious injuries.

She was in hospital for several weeks but luckily Kate survived the attack.

He was eventually caught thanks to former Detective Chief Inspector Colin Sutton who was able to connect all three killings to Bellfield.

Sutton and his work in the Metropolitan Police is now the central focus of the ongoing ITV crime drama Manhunt which has returned for season two.

Bellfield was found guilty of murdering Marsha and Amelie, and the attempted murder of Kate in 2008.

As a result, the nightclub doorman was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Two years later, Bellfield was also charged with the abduction and murder of Milly.

Bellfield was convicted of these crimes in 2011 and once again sentenced to life behind bars.

It was also recommended that he should never be released from prison as he now serves two life sentences.

Bellfield is currently serving his time in HMP Frankland, Country Durham.

In 2016, he converted to Islam and now refers to himself as Yusuf Rahim.

Talking to Sky News about his impression of Bellfield, Sutton said: “I’m no psychologist but he was a narcissist.

“He had complete arrogance and complete self-centeredness. He was a person who did exactly what he wanted to do.

“It didn’t matter what consequences that would have for other people, for the law… he just saw something and did it.

“I had the pleasure in the end of standing face-to-face across the desk and charging him with murder.

“To stand there across the desk in the police station and look into his eyes and accuse him of what he’d done was a very satisfying moment for me certainly.

“It was an emotional moment.”
