We have a question. No, wait. We have all the questions. With Disney Plus’ launch only a few days away, some fans are wondering whether or not movies like Toy Story 4 will be available on the streaming platform. What Pixar films will be on Disney Plus at its launch date? Here’s what we know about this subscription service.
Disney and Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 4’ will not be on Disney Plus at its launch date
Pixar fans aren’t exactly happy with the official list of television shows and movies to be available on Disney Plus at its launch. Among the movies excluded from the platform’s library is the film Toy Story 4, released earlier in 2019. Presumably, the animated film will be available within the upcoming months, but there is no official date set for Toy Story 4’s appearance on the subscription service.
According to What’s on Disney Plus, “If we look at how some of the previously released Disney movies, such as Dumbo, Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, they will be added to Disney+ about eight months after their cinema release.” That means Toy Story 4 could be on Disney Plus around February 2020. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that movies might be going on Disney+ on a different timeline, as they adjust the current release system.
Other Pixar movies, including ‘Toy Story 3,’ ‘Monsters University,’ and ‘The Incredibles’ will be available on Dinsey Plus
Toy Story 4 will not be on Disney Plus at its launch date. Still, we have good news for fans of Woody, Jessie, and Buzz. Other movies created by Pixar, (in addition to movies produced by Lucasfilm, Marvel, and National Geographic,) will be available for binge-watching on this platform.
According to The Verge, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and Toy Story 3 will all be available for streaming on Disney Plus. Other Pixar movies listed among the service’s “Day-One Library” are Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, and Ratatouille. There are, however, spin-off shows and movies detailing the lives of Pixar characters.
There are a few original television shows regarding Pixar characters, like Forky from ‘Toy Story 4’
Toy Story 4 may not be available on the streaming platform at its launch date. However, fans can still see characters like Forky, Rex, and Trixie in a series exclusive to Disney Plus. Forky Asks A Question will be available at the subscription service’s launch date.
“I was fortunate enough to produce the Forky Asks a Question series,” said Pixar producer Mark Nielson during an interview with comicbook.com. “These 10 films that we made for Disney+, and there’s another production unit within Pixar that made Lamp Life, the backstory of Bo Peep, before Toy Story 4, and that’s coming out on Disney+.”
“This is a new kind of way to tell stories and release them that we didn’t really have before,” he continued. “We’ve always done short films, and the DVDs often had a short film, but this does give us a greater chance. And while we don’t have anything in mind or any production related to Toy Story right now, beyond Lamp Life and Forky Asks a Question, the door is certainly open to that. And you’re right, these characters have such a great implied history and implied future. You can take any of these characters down a lot of really interesting roads.”
Disney Plus premieres in the United States on Nov. 12, 2019.
