A man shot dead by Wheat Ridge police on Thursday, who police said was armed with a shotgun and had been firing the weapon, has been identified.
Todd Fiepke, 49, was shot at about 1:45 p.m. at Sheridan Boulevard and West 29th Avenue. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified Fiepke on Friday as the decedent.
On Thursday, police said Fiepke was firing a shotgun as he walked eastbound on West 29th Avenue in the area of Sheridan. In an encounter with police, Fiepke challenged officers and brandished the weapon. He was shot by police and died at the scene. No officers were injured.
Officers involved are on administrative leave per department policy. The First Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team, a multi-agency unit including the DA’s office, is investigating the police shooting.
