Brighton councilman Kris Jordinelli censured over bizarre behavior during virtual council meeting

A Brighton city councilman was censured by his colleagues Tuesday night following a disjointed rant he gave during a council meeting earlier this month — words he attributed to being under the influence of alcohol and medication.

The council voted 6-1 to censure Kris Jordinelli, for exhibiting behavior during a Sept. 15 council meeting that is “inconsistent with the values and ideals of the Council or the City of Brighton,” according to a city press release.

Jordinelli, who was elected last November, first commented to his colleagues about the red hue of his face during a virtual council meeting before launching into a bizarre diatribe. Fox31, which was first to report on Jordinelli’s behavior, said the councilman’s behavior was concerning enough that the council agreed to send someone to his house to check up on him.

“I grew up on a farm and I saw animals eat each other. I had cops who were my buddies, and a cat will eat the brain of an old lady, so this conversation is just pissing me off,” the councilman said. “I may get recalled over it and I don’t care.”

Jordinelli apologized for his behavior in an interview with Fox31 last week and did so again publicly Tuesday night, vowing to “regain trust not with words but through actions,” the press release read. Tuesday’s resolution encouraged Jordinelli to take advantage of resources available through Brighton and other sources.

Jordinelli’s censure comes less than a year after Brighton Mayor Ken Kreutzer was recalled.
