Girl dies after being hit by car at campsite on Cornwall’s Lizard peninsula

  • Crash took place at 12.50pm on Wednesday in Helston on the Lizard Peninsula 
  • Police and paramedics were called after collision between ‘vehicle and a child’
  • It is not yet known how old the girl was. An air ambulance also attended 

A girl has died after being hit by a car at a Cornwall campsite.

The crash took place at 12.50pm on Wednesday in Helston on the Lizard Peninsula in west Cornwall.

Police said officers and paramedics were called after a collision between a ‘vehicle and a child’. 

It is not yet known how old the girl was. An air ambulance also attended.

Devon and Cornwall Police remained on the scene to investigate yesterday.    

A police spokesperson said: ‘Police and paramedics were called to a campsite in the Helston area following a report of a collision between a vehicle and a child at around 12.50pm on Wednesday 12 May.

‘The air ambulance also attended the incident.

‘Tragically, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

‘Officers from the Roads Policing Team are currently in attendance and conducting an examination of the scene.’
