Man and woman killed with two others fighting for their lives in horror smash in Sussex

A MAN and a woman have been killed and two others fighting for their lives after a horror multi-car crash in West Sussex.

Emergency services rushed to the scene yesterday after a silver Ford Fiesta and a white Ford Fiesta were involved in a collision with a Scania tipper truck.

Despite the best efforts of medics, an 83-year-old man from Worthing, West Sussex and a 30-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Two other women, both aged 23 years and from Kent, were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators remained at the scene of the crash, on the A272 in West Grinstead, West Sussex for several hours.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Road closures remained in place while police, the fire service, ambulance service and air ambulance service responded to the incident."

Detective Sergeant Rob Baldwin, of the Surrey & Sussex Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We would particularly like to speak with anyone travelling on the A272 between Cowfold village and Littleworth Lane to the west, on Monday morning between 11.15am and 11.30am, who has dash camera footage.

"We would also like to speak with any resident or business who has CCTV footage showing the road between those locations."

Details of the two who died have not yet been released by police. Post mortem examinations are to be carried out on their bodies and inquests will be opened and adjourned later in the week.
