Meghan claims there were royal ‘concerns’ over colour of baby Archie’s skin

Meghan Markle has claimed there were "concerns" about the colour of baby Archie's skin.

The Duchess of Sussex sat down to speak in an interview with American television presenter, Oprah Winfrey, on Sunday night US time, airing on the CBS channel before it airs on ITV on Monday.

Meghan and Harry welcomed Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor in May 2019.

However, while Meghan felt this would be a positive move, she claims there were allegedly secret conversations going on behind palace walls, which Harry revealed he would never share.

Meghan said that while she was pregnant, there had been "several conversations" with members of the family about "how dark" their baby would have been.

The Duchess also refused to reveal who that conversation was with.

She went on to suggest that it was a "pretty safe" assumption for Oprah to assume that had Archie been "too brown" it would have raised concerns.

The Duchess, 39, said: "In those months when I was pregnant, we had in tandem the conversations of him not being given security or a title, and also concerns about how dark his skin might be when he's born."

However, Meghan chose not to reveal the identity of the individuals who had been engaged in conversations as it would be "very damaging" to their image.

The couple, who stepped down from their official royal roles last year, are currently awaiting the arrival of their second child, a daughter, who will be born later this year.

Meghan and Harry shared their delightful news on Valentine's Day, with a spokesperson for the couple saying that Archie would be becoming a big brother.

However, Archie holds no royal title, with Meghan saying "they" didn't want their then-unborn child to be granted a Prince or Princess title, as it would differ from the royal protocol.

It had been speculated that Harry and Meghan made the decision to turn down a curtesy title from The Queen but Meghan has now said that this was not the case.
