Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ‘hit the roof’ when Queen revoked titles

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are said to have "hit the roof" when The Queen decided to take away their titles one year on from "Megxit", according to an expert.

The couple were stung by the phrasing of Buckingham Palace's statement, which hinted the Hollywood-bound duo didn't have time for a "life of public service", according to ITV's royal editor Chris Ship.

Harry and Meghan immediately issued their own statement, saying: "We can all live a life of service. Service is universal."

Describing the move on ITV News at 6 pm tonight (February 19) Chris said: "When they saw that statement, Harry and Meghan hit the roof.

"They believe they do lead a life of service and simply wanted to do it from the US – in their statement this afternoon they didn’t attempt to paper over the cracks."

The Palace said it was "not possible" for Meghan and Harry to continue their duties five days after it was revealed they were doing a 90-minute tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The show, called "Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special", will air on CBS on March 7.

Buckingham Palace's statement, in full, read: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family.

"Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.

"The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family.

"While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much-loved members of the family."

Although Meghan and Harry are no longer referred to as "HRH", it seems they will still get to keep their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles for the foreseeable future.

The pair have revealed they are expecting another baby to join their family with son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Although he doesn't have a royal title, baby Archie is 7th in line to the throne, putting him ahead of Prince Andrew and his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
