Meghan Markle hid her growing baby bump from the world for weeks with specially placed from the chest up appearances online.
Prince Harry and his wife Meghan have announced they are expecting their second child alongside an image of the former Suits star cradling her bump.
There had been no hint of a second Sussex Royal baby until the announcement, which was released on Valentine's Day, despite the Duchess making several online appearances.
Appearing on a video call a week before the reveal, Meghan was seen sitting next to Harry on a poetry class video call.
The call was framed in such a way that the 39-year-old’s belly couldn’t be seen and Meghan looked trim in a buttoned light-blue shirt.
Meghan’s news that her first child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, would soon be a "big brother" was shared in a statement.
A spokesperson for the couple said: "We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child."
The sweet image posted alongside the announcement appeared showed the couple in an "intense" moment of "mutual joy," a body language expert said.
Judi James told ExpressOnline that Meghan cradling her bump made the picture a "perfect moment" and the fact it was released on Valentine’s Day added to their happiness.
She said: "There’s such an intense sense of mutual joy in this pose and the fact that it was released on Valentine’s Day makes the moment look even more perfect.
"As Meghan lies stretched out and relaxed on the grass with her bump clearly showing her head rests in Harry’s lap so that she looks straight up into his undiluted, ecstatic smile."
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal baby won't have a title unless the Queen says so
Meghan and Harry’s announcement comes less than a week after the Duchess of Sussex won a High Court privacy battle against Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Mail on Sunday.
She sued after the paper after it published extracts of a handwritten personal letter she wrote to her father, Thomas Markle, following her Windsor Castle wedding to Harry.
The couple have not shared how far along Meghan is but back in October 2020, the Duchess' lawyers had asked for the case to be delayed until October 2020 if it went to trial on "confidential ground".
If the Duchess was pregnant at the time of the announcement, she would be four months gone, with five months left of her pregnancy, indicating a late July, early August baby.
