Mum demands £74 refund from water park after girl, 9, ‘cuts shoulder’

A mum is demanding her money back from Waterworld – after saying her daughter was injured during a visit to the water park.

Gemma Freakley splashed out £74 to take nine-year-old Summer-Rose Whiston and her friend to the tourist attraction.

But she says Summer-Rose cut her shoulder on a bolt as she queued to go on a slide during last month's visit.

The issue was reported to first aid staff and Summer-Rose was given a plaster, StokeonTrentLive reports.

The 32-year-old, from Fenton, Staffs, said: “I went to go and take a picture of the bolt because I didn't know what else to do. I was told I wasn't allowed but I did it anyway.

"I wanted them to cover the bolt there and then and put plastic over it so it isn't exposed. But nothing happened while I was there.

“I paid £74 and my daughter gets a cut shoulder. That bolt should have been covered over or the slide closed until they could fix it and check it.

“It doesn't matter whether this has happened to one person or to 10 people it needs to be fixed. Especially when kids are walking around.”

The family had arrived at Waterworld at 12.15pm and say they left after an hour.

But Gemma added: “They wouldn't give me a refund after we had come out because they said we had been in there longer than an hour.

"We were in there exactly an hour but it took us 45 minutes to an hour waiting for a manager to speak to another manager and so on.

“I would like my money back for a start and health and safety officers to check this out so it doesn't happen to another child.”

Waterworld declined to comment to StokeonTrentLive, and has been approached by Daily Star Online.
