A let-down mum has spoken of a "disastrous" family trip to Chessington World of Adventures Resort after wasting two-and-a-half hours queuing for one ride.

Charlotte Thompson and her family, who live in Caterham, Surrey, visited the Chessington theme park for a fun day out on Friday (October 29).

They arrived at 10am, but were quickly left dismayed by the long queues.

Speaking to SurreyLive, Ms Thompson said that herself and her two children arrived when the park opened, along with two other adults and their four children.

Despite being at the front of the queue for the 'Kobra' ride, Ms Thompson claims they had to wait around for nearly an hour as staff members were still testing the ride.

She said the family then faced a long two-and-a-half hour wait for 'Vampire', despite signs saying the waiting time was just 90 minutes. From then on, she said the trip became "disastrous".

The mum added: "With lots of children, from five to 10 years old, it wasn't easy to keep them happy waiting all that time."

After lunch, the group split up at around 3pm in the hope of getting on more rides.

Ms Thompson's family headed towards the 'Croc Drop' which had a wait time of 45 minutes, but in reality she said they waited for more than 90 minutes.

At 5pm, she said the group of nine headed home after having only been on three rides within seven hours.

Ms Thompson said: "So for a day that cost each of us £115 plus lunch, we had managed three rides by 5pm. Both of my kids were so disappointed with the trip."

She further claimed that the theme park was too busy, and organisers had issued too many fast track passes to make them worthwhile.

Ms Thompson says she will now be complaining to the theme park.

A spokesperson for Chessington World of Adventures Resort said: "We are disappointed to hear this family's feedback from their visit yesterday.

"We can experience higher queue times at busier points in our season, such as during school holidays. During these periods our teams are fully focused on keeping all queue lines moving as quickly as possible, whilst maintaining the highest standard of health and safety.

"We would encourage the family to get in touch with us directly, so we can discuss their experience in more detail."
