A mum was ill for several months before she allegedly stabbed her three children, reports say.
Liliana Carrillo, 30, was arrested on Saturday, April 10 in Tulare County, around four hours north of where her three children were found dead in Reseda, California.
A few hours earlier, the children Joanna, Terry and Sierra, aged three, two, and six months were found dead in an apartment complex by their grandmother.
With Liliana nowhere to be found, the grandmother called the police.
The 30-year-old mum was supposed to hand over the kids to their father, ex-boyfriend, Erik Denton the following day, he told the Los Angeles Times.
The pair had been involved in a bitter custody battle since March 1, after Denton claims the mum had "been acting mentally unstable".
"Liliana was very sick, and this is not – she was not herself, and it’s been going on for several months that she has been unwell," Denton's Cousin, Teri Miller, said.
The father is said to be furious that Child Protective Services didn't get involved.
A friend of the father's told the Sun: "I just can't understand how she was able to do what she did, I know she loves her babies.
"To be able to do that she had to have disassociated herself because no one in their right might would commit such a heinous act."

The friend also added the tots' grandma, who found their remains, is reliving the "horrifying" experience, which is one "she'll never forget."
Liliana is being held on $60,000 bail in the Tulare County jail. No court date has been confirmed yet.
