Ocasio-Cortez speaks about her ‘super bizarre’ alliance with Ted Cruz

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called her potential alliance with Sen. Ted Cruz “super bizarre, really weird” and blasted Joe Biden’s progressive cred.

Staff for Ocasio-Cortez and Cruz are discussing a potential bill that would block Congress members from becoming lobbyists when they leave office, she told The Young Turks in a Thursday interview.

“Never thought in my life that one of my first pushes would be alongside Ted Cruz,” she said.

The two first found they were in agreement in a Twitter exchange.

“I think it really shows what the true spirit of not being partisan is and that bipartisanship doesn’t mean let’s come together to go to war and lower taxes on the rich,” she said. “But bipartisanship means I will swallow all of my distaste in the situation because we have found a common interest.”

In another segment of the interview, she bashed Biden over comments he was the most progressive of the many Democratic presidential candidates.

“The term progressive is getting hijacked so much that people think it means Democrat now, and not all Democrats are progressive,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

She cited Biden’s previous support for the Hyde Amendment, which bans federal funds for abortions. Biden reversed course Thursday and said he now opposes the amendment.

“If you’re pride is being a moderate centrist candidate, then go out and say that,” she said. “Say I’m a proud centrist, I’m proud to be fueled by Wall Street, I’m proud to not push as hard as I can on women’s rights.”
