A shocked parent who had popped into his local Poundland for a few essentials saw a display of dildos, butt plugs and other sex toys prominently displayed at children’s eye-level in the racks near the till.
Simon Jinadu told the Daily Star that he popped into a branch of the budget store in Deptford, southeast London "to get some cheap antihistamines and some crisps".
While he was waiting to pay, he said: "I was confronted with a pretty comprehensive display of adult toys right at the eye level of a small child and very much in plain sight."
The items included a pink seven-inch dildo, a G-spot vibrator and a remote-controlled vibrating love egg. The items were mixed in a display with various other "impulse buy" items such as spare phone chargers and headphones.
Shocked, Simon asked a member of staff if he could speak to the store’s manager but was told that there was no-one available.
The member of staff "kind of laughed it off, but not in a mean or unpleasant way," so Simon gave up on the idea of complaining in the store itself.
"I'm no prude but I was shocked, baffled and at the same time slightly amused that they would display them so blatantly,” he said.
He told us that it might be different if the items had been displayed on a high shelf or perhaps in a separate area.

"They’re not on the top shelf, but rather in the queueing aisle," Simon said.
"If you go to the seediest parts of Soho, you would still have to enter a blacked-out shop to see the items on display.
"I was thinking 'Is this a dare by bored members of staff?' and 'How the hell would I explain this to my 11-year-old daughter!'"
He added that due to the location that the items were displayed it was inevitable that kids would see them, and perhaps ask embarrassing or awkward questions.
"I do not feel it appropriate for young children to have to know about these things quite yet," he said.
The Daily Star approached Poundland for a comment but has yet to receive a reply.
