Prince Harry ‘couldn’t wait’ to go home to Meghan Markle after Philip’s funeral

Prince Harry "couldn't wait" to get back to the US to be home with his heavily pregnant wife Meghan Markle and son Archie, it has been claimed.

The Duke of Sussex had flown over to the UK to attend the funeral of his grandfather Prince Philip, who died peacefully at Windsor Castle on April 9 aged 99 years old.

After attending the funeral, which was held in St George’s Chapel in Windsor on April 17, Harry returned to the US – which meant he missed the Queen's birthday on Wednesday.

Harry's pregnant wife Meghan Markle, who is expecting a baby girl later this year, was told by doctors not to travel to the UK for the funeral but did send a handwritten note and a wreath.

And after nine days in the UK, a source close to the couple has claimed that Harry was eager to get back stateside.

"Harry couldn’t wait to return to his heavily pregnant wife and Archie," the insider told Us Weekly. "[He] is happy to be back in Montecito."

Sources previously claimed Harry was "conflicted" over whether he should stay in the UK for the Queen's birthday.

The flying visit to the UK was a "family-focused" trip intended to "honour the life of his grandfather and support his grandmother and relatives," a source close to Harry told royal expert Omid Scobie.

William and Harry are said to have taken "baby steps" towards healing their relationship with encouragement from royal peacemaker Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Kate Middleton took several steps back to allow the brothers to chat, it's been said.

He says that the Duke of Sussex also met privately with Her Majesty the Queen twice during his visit.

Earlier this week a source also claimed that Meghan Markle and little Archie spoke to the Queen before Prince Philip's funeral.

The Duchess of Sussex reportedly spoke to the monarch ahead of the service and was in regular contact with husband Prince Harry and "knows this trip to England has been difficult for him".

A source told People: "Meghan and Harry have been in touch every day.

"She knows the trip to England has been difficult for Harry. He didn't want to leave Meghan and Archie alone.

"Meghan has insisted to him every day though that they are fine. She hasn't wanted him to worry."

They added: "Meghan spoke with Harry before his grandfather's funeral. Meghan and Archie also spoke with the Queen earlier this week."

The Prince will now begin a second 10-day quarantine, a requirement for international travellers flying to the US.
