Republican Senator Ben Sasse says Trump 'kisses dictators' butts' and 'flirts with white supremacists' in leaked call

A REPUBLICAN senator in a call leaked on Thursday rattled off a list of criticisms of President Donald Trump, including that he “kisses dictators’ butts” and has “flirted with white supremacists.”

In the call with his constituents earlier this week, Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska initially spoke about matters which he agreed with Trump on, but then spent most of the nearly 10-minute conversation bashing him.

Sasse attacked Trump on his foreign policy, among other issues.

“The way he kisses dictators' butts,” Sasse said in an audio clip obtained by the Washington Examiner.

“I mean, the way he ignores that the Uighurs are in literal concentration camps in Xinjiang. Right now, he hasn't lifted a finger on behalf of the Hong-Kongers.”

The senator continued that under Trump’s leadership, the United States “regularly sells out our allies.”

Sasse denounced the way Trump treats women and said he “spends like a drunken sailor” and that he is no better in terms of spending than his predecessor Barack Obama.

Trump “mocks evangelicals behind closed doors” and “he’s flirted with white supremacists,” Sasse claimed.

Furthermore, the Trump family has “treated the presidency like a business opportunity,” the junior senator said.

Unsurprisingly, Sasse disapproved of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, which he described as first ignoring it, then going into full shutdown.

“The reality is that he careened from curb to curb,” Sasse said.

“He was the one who said 10 to 14 days of shutdown would fix this. And that was always wrong.”

Sasse said that he did not think Trump’s leadership through Covid-19 has been “reasonable or responsible or right,” but also accused the media of pretending it is the first-ever public health crisis and faulting the president.

“That's not true. They just wanted to use it against him," Sasse said.

The senator, who could run for president in 2024, added that Trump’s “stupid political obsessions” could push the US more to the left and possibly jeopardize the Senate, which currently enjoys a Republican majority.

Sasse said that young people repulsed by the “obsessive nature of our politics” could become “permanent Democrats,” and that women who voted Republican in the 2016 election could “turn away form this party permanently in the future.”

Nebraskans do not want more “rage tweeting as a new form of entertainment,” Sasse said, digging at Trump’s outspoken nature on Twitter.

He added that he believes Trump won the 2016 election “simply because Hillary Clinton was literally the most unpopular candidate in the history of polling.”

Sasse started his tirade after a female constituent asked him to explain his relationship with Trump and also why he criticizes him so much.

The senator is expected to easily win reelection on November 3.

Sasse’s spokesman James Wegmann confirmed to the Examiner that the senator made the remarks about Trump and provided more context.

“I don’t know how many more times we can shout this: Even though the Beltway is obsessing exclusively about the presidential race, control of the Senate is ten times more important,” Wegmann stated.

"The fragile Senate seats that will determine whether Democrats nuke the Senate are the races Ben cares about, the races he’s working on, and the only races he’s talking about.”
